Hi List,
Most answers posted to this sort of question suggest that MySql is much
faster than Access ('97).
I've developed a web-based scheduling application which does a lot of work
behind the scenes when a task is rescheduled - looking at who is doing the
task, making an allowance for their actual working week and doing the same
for all other tasks in a project which will be affected by the rescheduled
task. The application is written so that the backend database can be changed
by one switch in the coding, so exactly the same processes apply whichever
DB is used.
Typically, the processing and page refresh takes 1.5 to 2 times longer when
the DB used is MySql!
I'm sure I must be doing something wrong. While I know that there will be a
lot of factors governing the speed of databases, are there any general
principles involved with getting the best speed out of MySql? I have the
trace option disabled as I know this can be a common cause of slowness.
Using MyODBC 3.51 and win xp pro/win 2k server.
Many thanks in advance,
Jon Gant
