I have the same problem with the newest myODBC. In earlier versions, file
DSNs would just fail quietly leaving Access and other client applications to
return an intelligent error message (Microsoft's speciality as we all
know... "You are in a helicopter".)

I've given up file DSNs with myODBC altogether. Since you can't use file
DSNs located anywhere else than the local data source directory, they offer
no real advantage over system DSNs anyway. At least, it has never worked
with myODBC on any of my computers - again, no real error messages; it just
doesn't work.
