myodbc & Optima++

Does anyone have any experience of Optima (or Power++) as a Windows language
to access mysql on a linux server for creating client server applications.
I am currently evaluating the various IDE & RAD packages.  I only started
with Optima++ because I have the package.  But what it the oppinion of
Delphi, VisualJ++  VisualC++ etc.  I am a Pascal person not C but have only
realy done large stuff in structure languages for dos not this new OO stuff
so it is all a steep learning curve.
