Assuming you mave MyODBC installed, you go to Administrative tools in
Control panel and select Data Sources (ODBC). Then you add, say, a
System DSN and specify the details of the Linux server you want to
connect to, the database name and the user name to use for the
connection. You need to make sure the Linux server is accessible via DNS
name or IP address and the MySQL server on it has permission set that
will allow the specified user to connect.

I use a set up like this.
