Subject:newbie... "no hw ID received by mssg server"

When I attempt to login to a newly cloned 4.6c sandbox, I am receiving the
error "No logon possible (no hw ID received from mssg server)".

Any suggestions?  I'm brand new to SAP, having just returned from my first
ADM100 class.  Apologies if this is a stupid question.
