Backup history cleaning

Hello all,

 

We have MaxDB 7.6.00.12 at Suse Linux 10 operating system.

I want to clean all the time increasing backup history.

 

I didn't find a way to do this.

 

I tried to shutdown database then delete files dbm.knl and dbm.mdf at the Rundirectory.

But after starting database these files appeared again with the same contents as before
deleting.

 

Does anybody have any hint to clean backup history
