Please let me know if I submitted this to the wrong list. If so, what list
might be more appropriate?
I am looking to take an open source database and tweak it such that BLOB
data is written to an alternative device other than in the database. This
is for demonstration purposes only.
I was directed to MaxDB/SapDB/MySQL as an option.
QUESTION 1: Is MaxDB = SapDB = MySQL? I read that MaxDB = SapDB, but there
seems to be little said that says that MySQL = MaxDB.
Next, I need some help to figure out if I am heading in the right direction
as to the code base. I downloaded the sources and documentation for MaxDB
from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/maxdb/7.5.00.html
<http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/maxdb/7.5.00.html>
<http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/maxdb/7.5.00.html> > . I followed the
directions about getting the buildtools and the Sources for the server. I
have been able to build it for the most part.
Here's where the confusion comes in.... I was looking for documentation on
the internals so I could get pointers. I found an "MySQL Internals Manual"
document, but the instructions in there are so orthogonal to the other
sources I downloaded. It talks about using BitKeeper and such.
QUESTION 2: Is this a different source base all together? Essentially
related to QUESTION 1.
I think that is probably as far as I should go at this point until I
understand the differences between the stuff I have read.
Thanks in advance,
Cliff
