Hi Alex !

I am the one who maintains the ebuild for gentoo.
I would like to point you to the following forum thread

The ebuilds can be found in the bugs.gentoo.org system and a description
on how to install can be found in the thread above.

But:
*) The latest ebuild that i did is for 7.0.5.14.
*) The ebuilds do not work on 2004.x type installation for what reason
ever. (I spent weeks in trying to find out why but for some reason the
cpc-precompile that is needed to build maxdb, and that itself is build
during the build process always segfaults.

If you do have a 1.4 type installation you can use the ebuilds without
any problem
In the above forum thread a workaroud for using the ebuild on a 2004.x
installation is described.

As i do have a 2004.x installation on a testsystem again since a week, i
will start the work on creating an ebuild again next week.
