Dear member of MaxDB Community,
On Monday, January 26, a new version 7.4.03.31 of SAP DB Software was
made available, and the release was announced on this mailing list.
This message could understandably confuse many new users of the MaxDB
software. I order to clarify the naming policy and availability we wish
to point out the following:
- MaxDB is the current name of the database and used for versions 7.5
and higher. The MaxDB is the new name for database previously known as
SAP DB, the name change was announced in August 2003 and the first MaxDB
release was made available from www.mysql.com in November 2003.
- SAP DB is the former name of the MaxDB database. The older versions of
MaxDB, that is SAP DB 7.3 and SAP DB 7.4, are made available by MySQL
during a sunset period until March 31, 2004. During this sunset period,
we might still release some fix-versions to the SAP DB versions and it
was such a fix-version we announced about on January 26.
Hopefully this clarifies the message you received, and our policy
