Thank you all for the help. I did try the strace on mysqld, but didn't see
any relevant output when trying to define the function. I've played with
the syntax of the sql statement too. Regarding support for DSO; I don't
know if they are supported by my release (Red Hat). I can compile mysqld,
but couldn't find an option for DSO (./configure --help | grep -i dso) gave
nothing. Thanks again for your help.
