replication slave not sync metadata

Hi,

Looking at slave.cc code, I found out that when mysql call 
flush_io_cache() in slave threads to flush 
master_info/replication_info/etc, it never sync the data to disk.

Does Mysql do this for performance or there exist other places that 
sync the data?
