I need a review for the generic MySQL parts of this patch.

Testing I've done: make test, crash-me, perl run-all-tests --small-test
--create-options=type=innodb and perl run-all-tests --small-test
--create-options=type=myisam all went fine. Running random tests and
killing the server and then restarting it worked as expected.
