mysql server disconnects while using SSl

i apologise for having posted earlier msg on 9th august 2005.

going through bugs section i noticed that this problem has already been 
taken care of in later versions.

on setting connect_timeout=50000 the problem vanished.

the high value set is because the java application i use opens a connection 
on startup and uses this connection throughout application life.

should i close connection after every query set for security reasons.

is it necessary?\


also am i missing anything or not fully understanding its working
