OK, I just thought of something obvious about this.  Type this
from the top of the MySQL source tree:

    $ ./BUILD/compile-pentium -n --with-berkeley-db

It will print a shell script for you.  If you don't have any problem
with it, just remove the -n from that command, and see if that will
compile properly.  There is just some setup being done in the bdb
tree that is important.
