I am doing exactly this with no problem.  That script, 
check_reminders.php, and monitor.php all appear to work unmodified over 
the web

The only script where this does not work is download_emails.php because 
it needs parameters.  If you just want to send outgoing email, you won't 
even need it.

If you do need incoming email, I recently posted the hack/patch I am 
using to make this work on the eventum-devel list.  That patch was 
rather rough, though, so I don't believe they plan to integrate it, but 
if you need that functionality and want a head start, you should be able 
to obtain it from the devel list archive.
