Mysql connector 1.0.2 for linux???

How come the mysql connector 1.0.2 is only released as a .msi file. Why
not at least release a .tar.gz with the source and the assembly.

Mysql have always been a product much used by the open source community.
But I must say that so far the mysql connector has shown very little
interest in any platform but windows.

Why??
