I am writing a dissertation on spatial FOSS products. I am including MySQL.

I was wondering if anybody could provide me with some information on MySQL
history. I am particularly interested to know:

1. In what year was MySQL first released?
2. Was the MySQL first released as Linux only and if so, in what year was
the Windows version first released?
3. In what year was the spatial extension of MySQL first released?
4. Was the spatial extension first released as Linux only and if so, in what
year as the Windows version first released?
