why cant you both generate a ".la" and a ".a"
(if it's hard to let them have same name, you can call the one libmysys_la.la)

that we you dont change any behavior,
like that people who currently link *with* mysys would suddenly get a link-failure
cause there is no libmysys.a (even if we want them now to have to)
