The API/MySQL nodes (the applications) will connect in a round robin way to the data nodes. You actually don't have to do anything in regards to 'load balancing' there. This is the whole point of Cluster where you can have 1 node failing, the other will continue working and keep the data, the cluster up. Where you could load-balance is when you have multiple MySQL servers for example. Then you use something like LVS to use a round robin method to connect to the MySQL servers. Hope this helps.
