thanks for the continued help, Pekka...

sorry for the confusion on the memory check...I've never written C, so I just
copy-compile-try'd it. it seems to do okay with the correct argument...

[root@rh-mysql-1 /]# memCheck 1000000000
1000000000 ok!
[root@rh-mysql-1 /]# memCheck 2000000000
2000000000 ok!
[root@rh-mysql-1 /]# memCheck 3000000000
Cannot allocate memory

so, it will let me allocate 1GB, and 2GB, but not 3GB...seems correct. but if I'm setting:

DataMemory: 1000M
IndexMemory: 48M

I get this from error.log after NDB fails to start...

Date/Time: Monday 2 August 2004 - 03:18:10
Type of error: error
Message: Memory allocation failure
Fault ID: 2327
Problem data: DBTUP could not allocate memory for Page
Object of reference: Requested: 32768x32000 = 1048576000 bytes
ProgramName: NDB Kernel
ProcessID: 12893
TraceFile: NDB_TraceFile_3.trace
***EOM***

this tried to grab 1048576000 bytes, so I tried this...

[root@rh-mysql-1 /]# memCheck 1048576000
1048576000 ok!

I'm completely baffled...
