mysqld not connecting to ndb_mgmd

I have a cluster setup where I am trying to test 2 machines.

I start up the first machine and it shows the ndb_mgmd and ndbd running. I verify this
using ndb_mgm.

I startup mysqld with the ndbcluster and connect string in the my.cnf file but it doesn't
show up in the cluster. I tried the command line options and still no connection to the
cluster.

Is there something else I should do or must the manager be running on a different machine?
