Subject:The first MySQL Connector/OpenOffice.org preview is available!
View as plain text
Dear MySQL and OpenOffice.org users,

The first preview version of MySQL Connector/OpenOffice.org has been
released. MySQL Connector/OpenOffice.org is a new native MySQL database
connector for OpenOffice.org 2.4. It can be used to connect
OpenOffice.org applications to the MySQL Server. You can download it
from the MySQL Forge download page at

  http://downloads.mysql.com/forge/openoffice_preview

The MySQL Connector/OpenOffice.org is easy to use. It is provided as an
OpenOffice.org Extension. Extensions can be installed through the
Extension Manager of OpenOffice.org. The Extension Manager can be
started from within the office by pressing the menu item Tools -
Extension Manager.

Before the availability of the MySQL Connector/OpenOffice.org,
OpenOffice.org office-suite users had to use MySQL Connector/J (JDBC) or
MySQL Connector/ODBC to connect to the MySQL Server. Using the new MySQL
Connector/OpenOffice.org has the following advantages

* Easy installation through the OpenOffice.org Extension Manager.
* Seamless integration into OpenOffice.org.
* No need for additional Connector installation routines (ODBC/JDBC)
* No need to configure and/or register an additional Connector (ODBC)
* No need to install and/or configure a driver manager (ODBC)

MySQL Connector/OpenOffice.org is available as a development preview
version. We do not recommend using it in production environments.

We kindly ask users and developers to try it out and provide us with
feedback, bug reports, bug fixes, patches, etc. To discuss the new MySQL
Connector/OpenOffice.org, please subscribe to the mailing list
users@stripped on http://dba.openoffice.org .

More information is available on the projects wiki page at

Enjoy!
